Ken Wentworth - "Many Happy Miles: A Personal Tribute" Dick Curless has been a big man to me since I met him at the Belmont Hotel in Bangor, Maine around 1962 or '63. He was a friendly man and never forgot my name even when years would pass without seeing me, as they often did. The night I met him, I invited him to a party and asked if he would bring his guitar and to my surprise he did. I was very impressed with his ability as a singer. And his ability on a guitar. Man he really loved to sing and play that guitar. If you looked at him you could see that once he started a song he lived within it and all other things in life left his thoughts until the song was over. I gotta tell you that from the first time I heard Dick Curless sing "Room Full Of Roses" I wanted to sing that song just the way (impossible) he did. The night I met him he showed me my first country licks on a guitar and I was sold on Country. I sold my electric and gave up on the Rock and Roll music I had been playing. Dick also had the ability to be at home anywhere he was. He seemed to like everyone he met and everyone he met liked him. What a deal, HA!! I managed to play music with him three or four times through the years. He was always friendly and even gave me his phone # when he moved to Nashville. I talked with him many times. I remember him as a kind man and a man of great emotion that could be moved by the words of a song and could get you caught up in that same emotion as he experienced it in the song as he sang it. I miss him and I have met a lot of others who also miss him. There is much more to say...HE WAS A BIG MAN! AND HE WAS A LEGEND! and as he would say if he were here, "Many Happy Miles." On this CD Bob Fillion, Dave Peavey, and Fred Thompson all played with Dick. Bod and Dave traveled with him through parts of Canada and the New England states. Making this CD was a labor of love. Dick was spoken of often by all of us, and many stories were told. Peace be with you Dick. I can still fell the emotion in the songs you left us. Your Loyal Fan and Friend, Ken Wentworth. Save me a good spot would yah?? Many More Happy Miles. |
